Welcome to Rubbernecker, you are on a guided tour of art projects and other musings: photography, small-edition photography books, video, audio and mixed media.
My photography has developed by making pictures, many pictures; 99% of them end in the “trash bin”: this is the 1%. I am mostly self-taught but I have drawn inspiration from the work of W. Eugene Smith, Mary Ellen Mark, Lee Friedlander, Lewis Baltz, Lucas Samaras, Diane Arbus, William Eggelston, Susan Meiselas and Garry Winogrand; to name just a few. My friend, artist Troy Dalton was a true inspiration and confidant. Pink Floyd’s album Animals was part of my early soundtrack. David Hockney is a mentor from a distance; read his book A History of Pictures with Martin Gayford.
My interest in art began seriously during my time at California State University, Sonoma, where I studied philosophy and photography, blending the discipline of both. I earned a BA in Philosophy and owe much of my world view to the teachings and interpretations of Harold Alderman, Phil Clayton and Edward Mooney.
Since 1996, I have been an editorial photographer in the Great Valley of California. Rubbernecker is a place to show work in a low-resolution, immediate way; this is not commercial work, it is personal. Active projects are updated regularly, other projects are finalized. Contact me for a custom print or send me feedback.
